The game modification I selected to discuss is called “GAME ART: MIRIAM ROSS AND HELEN PERKINS’S ASSASSIN’S CREED ULYSSES (2020).” The mod’s aesthetics and mechanics are similar to its predecessors but evolved in more historic and phenomenal graphics that blow you away. The reason I say this is because it is from a famous franchise, Assassins Creed, which has been successful in its games for the past few years. It also learned from Assassin’s Creed: Blackflag of how they can bring their future games to the next level of mechanics and design. According to Alexander Galloway, “ He argues for a direct connection to be made between play and culture, that play is not simply something that exists within culture, but on the contrary that culture arises in and through play.”
Dr. Miriam Ross, the artist/ modder, subverted the formal structures of the original game in question by combining combine practice-based methods and traditional academic analysis. She also works with new technologies to combine practice-based methods and traditional academic analysis. Her publications include South American Cinematic Culture: Policy, Production, Distribution and Exhibition (2010) and 3D Cinema: Optical Illusions and Tactile Experiences (2015) as well as journal articles on film industries, new cinema technologies, stereoscopic media and film festivals. Last, Miriam Ross and Helen Perkins used Ubisoft’s Story Creator Mode to not only actively critique mainstream video games, but also show their work truly illustrate the strength of machinima by mixing different texts, aesthetics, and modes of cosnumption. Furthermore, some actively critiquing mainstream video games through modding techniques by showing their mods and actively playing it on their livestream or use their mods to create memes/try not to laugh videos.
